ameliaAmelia Schmitz  graduated from Belleville West High School class of 2017. Her cumulative GPA was 4.0 (unweighted) and 5.0 (weighted). She plans to attend Washington University in the fall.  Her goals include pursuing a law degree with an emphasis on social justice for women and children.

Amelia excelled in extracurricular activities and community service during her high school career.  She was elected to student council for four consecutive years (2013 – 2017). She was a student-athlete earning a position on the Varsity Dance Team (2013-2017) and was voted captain her junior and senior years.  In 2016 she was the coronation chairperson for the prom committee. A member of the Little Theater 2014 – 2017, she became the dance captain for the spring musicals 2016 & 2017.

Adding to her stellar academic achievements, Amelia has demonstrated a passion for community service.   She is a Girl Scout Ambassador for Troop 889. Girl Scout awards include Bronze (2008), Silver (2012), and Gold (2016).  She has donated her time as a servant with the community interfaith food pantry since 2016. In addition she volunteers with the Art On The Square in her locale.

Achievement has become a standard for Amelia during her career at Belleville West High School. She has received honors including Illinois State Scholar, Belleville West Citizenship Award,  Senior Student of the Month (December 2016), Greater Belleville Area National Youth Salute Honoree (2016), Youth to Washington D.C. Representative, and 2016 Illinois Youth Day Attendee. In 2015, she was selected by her teachers as the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Ambassador. During her senior year, she was awarded the Belleville Rotary Young Women of Achievement for Academics.  Amelia is the daughter of Mark and Kit Schmitz.

 

EddieEddie Caumiant is a graduate of the Belleville East High School class of 2017. His cumulative GPA was 4.0 (unweighted) and 5.0 (weighted).  He has been accepted to attend the University of Illinois  in the fall.  Eddie is planning to study Psychology, his goals including becoming a counselor or therapist.

During his high school career, Eddie participated in multiple extracurricular programs. He was a member of the Marching Band, Concert Band and Chess Team for four years. During his junior and senior years, he joined the Pit Orchestra and Spanish Club.

Eddie gave back to his local community during his high school years. He volunteered at the local food pantry in the summer before his senior year. In the last two years of high school, he tutored his peers that needed additional academic support. Eddie is the son of Jennifer and Eddie Caumiant.
